Naftogaz pays off debt for 2007's gas supplies

Naftogaz of Ukraine has today paid out its debt for natural gas supplied in 2007, the Ukrainian government's press office quoted First Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Turchinov as saying on Tuesday. He expressed regret that a sizable amount of Ukrainian money went to pay off debts to intermediaries.

He expressed regret that a sizable amount of Ukrainian money went to pay off debts to intermediaries.
According to him, those debts had been "artificially
created by predecessors." Turchinov also affirmed
that the government would continue to pursue a policy
of bringing the gas market out of the shadow economy
by eliminating intermediaries and getting rid of any
nontransparent criminal schemes.
