The future of the current democratic coalition in parliament depends on deputies from the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense faction, Serhiy Sobolev, the Deputy Head of the BYuT parliamentary faction, has said.
"No one can say that pensions and teachers’ and doctors’ salaries aren’t being paid. No one can say that gas is not available and paid for. I believe that the government, even in these difficult times, it fulfilling its direct obligations," Serhiy Sobolev said.
He also recalled that the Constitution clearly identifies the powers of the president and head of government. "There is the power of the prime minister to present the president’s nominations for heads of oblast administrations. No matter what the relationship between them, this must be done, because the country can’t exist without regional executive government. There are the powers of the prime minister that regard clear executive discipline and economic decisions. Theses are the powers of the prime minister, and there’s no way the president can influence this, unless he stops the government’s decisions, as was the case with President Yushchenko," he explained.

According to Serhiy Sobolev, the future situation
depends on 37 deputies from the Our Ukraine –
People’s Self-Defense faction, because it’s
impossible to create a coalition in parliament
without this faction. "At present there are 20
deputies who are willing to cooperate with Viktor
Yanukovych and the Party of Regions. They have
already set conditions under which they can
coexist. They have said that they have two
candidates for the prime minister’s post –
Yatseniuk and Yushchenko. This is the power by
which Martynenko, as the head of the faction, is
holding talks with us and the Party of Regions," he
said.
